Water me thoroughly when the soil in my pot or the moss in body begins to dry. Your best bet is a gentle spray from the garden hose, in the sink, or put me in the shower. An occasional misting between waterings is helpful. Fertilize with any all purpose liquid fertilizer once per month. Follow all label instructions on the fertilizer. During the most active growth period you want to fertilize twice per month. If you are keeping me in the house, give me plenty of bright light but not full afternoon sun. It is best if potted ivy topiary spend 25% of the time outdoors in the shade when weather permits. Do not put indoor plants outside in direct light. Moss filled topiary should spend as much time as possible outdoors, 75% is what we recommend. In winter climates where temperatures go below freezing for long periods of time, moss filled topiary should be indoors or in a cool greenhouse. Make sure they have plenty of light and good air circulation. Allow the moss to dry just a little between waterings. If you are keeping me outdoors, I need light shade and I might need more water and fertilizer. Even though there are several ivies that do like full sun when planted into the ground, potted ivies or moss animals will dry out very quickly if they are small. It is best to have these in shade. To avoid insects and disease, keep me vigorous and healthy, by following the steps outlined above. Regular grooming and inspection will alert you to any problems. |
